How to Change Your Style
from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
Are you feeling a little bored with your wardrobe? Does your current style seem a little bland? Even though it's impossible to make anyone change overnight, you can follow these tips to steer yourself in the right direction.
Steps
- Experiment with your eyes. If you wear glasses and hate them, consider contact lenses. If you like wearing glasses, but hate how they look, try on every set of frames in the shop. You'll be surprised at which pairs look cool once you put them on. If you like Ray Bans, you can get the frames and then replace the lens.
- Pay more attention to your hair. Get a haircut if you are sick with your hair. Make sure you get a style that suits your face shape and hair type. Discuss it with your hairdresser beforehand. Invest in a straightener if you want sleek straight hair. Invest in a curler if you want loose curls. GHD is recommended.
- Get the basics. Basics are needed to begin your new wardrobe. They're more versatile and can be worn with nearly anything color and style wise. Buy basic tops like tanks, beaters, camisoles, crew necks, v necks, and scoop neck tee/tanks. Just using these tops you could layer them into something totally you. Buy neutral colors like brown, black, grey, and/or white. After you've developed your neutrals move forward to color that appeals to you. You could create very cute color combinations with the options. You don't have to spend a lot to buy basics; shop at stores which are pretty much known for selling basic products.
- Move your way up to buy more funky tops you like and would fit well in your new style. They have many styles, fits, and funky prints that could help build a successful stylish wardrobe.
- Get your perfect pair of jeans. They're really versatile and simple and perfect for any season. Try dark wash or raw jeans which look more sleek and professional, and are easier to dress up. You want a wide selection in jeans so add boot cuts, skinny's, flares, relaxed, and low rise. Skinny jeans are very in right now but, don't always work on everyone so get the pair of jeans that best works on your body type. Consider getting a pair in dark wash, or just normal wash. Like they always say there's no such thing as having too many jeans.
- Choose a skirt that you like. Something that appeals to you length-wise and style-wise. Knee-length skirts are very feminine and cute depending on the style. They have plenty of styles of skirts. They could be pretty and feminine, or sleek and sophisticated. Mini's are good too if you're comfortable in them. If you don't look right in a skirt, don't buy one. Make sure you're skirt isn't too short for you to feel awkward.
- Buy Oxfords. They're very professional and clean. They've become very popular, but they're pretty much a fashion staple. Even if Oxfords don't fit into your style they're a must. A closet essential. Get them in solid colors like white, or blue. They also come in patterns like vertical, or horizontal stripes, candy stripes, various colors, and fits. They may come in handy for more dressier occasions. Shop for these almost anywhere including stores Ralph Lauren, Gap, American Eagle, and H&M.
- Get a cardigan. They're much needed for fall to keep warm on those cool crisp days and nights. Get neutral colors like browns, and creams. Cardigans comes in a good range of lengths and styles. Sweaters are good too. They have them in short sleeves, long sleeves, and lots of different neck lines which are perfect for any style whether you're punk, or prep. Be sure to check at the Gap, Old Navy and Urban Outfitters, J. Crew, American Apparel, Ralph Lauren.
- Try a jacket or blazer. These could be worn over almost anything considered a top.
- Shop for shoes, a girls' favorite accessory! Flats are perfect for every day. They're very simple and versatile, and come in plenty of styles and colors. They look best with bare feet, but if you could pull them off with funky socks, go for it! Start off with solid colors then work on up to prints. Also buy funky tennis shoes for gym. They're a must in closets also.
- Accessorize. Try things such as earrings, belts, makeup, bags, and similar items. They could make a plain outfit more funky and more stylish. It's nice to have basic jewelry like diamond stud earrings or pearls (earrings and necklaces). Bangles are needed also. Sunglasses (which should be worn every season), belts, head bands, rings, head scarves (which can also be used as belts). You could buy all of this at Claire's, Icing, and Hot Topic.
- Buy what you like, not what you think you like. If you don't like a purchase much you won't be satisfied with what you've got.
- Try on clothes before you buy them. You won't be happy with your purchases if you can't fit in them, or you don't like the color of them on your complexion. It saves time and money.
- If you have too many of something such as purses, tank tops etc, there's no need to buy any more. Learn not to buy un-needed things. You'll really save money on the things you do need. Also learn to dress up the things you have into your new style. Alter them if needed.
- Shop at vintage stores. They have really awesome stuff! Thrifting is also great for both your wallet and your style. Keep an open mind when shopping in a thrift store. It hard to find a piece you actually like so scourage for those gems.
- Ease into your style or else you may seem like a poser. Don't just do it because someone else is doing it. Do it because you want to benefit your style for yourself.
- If you're known for being a fashion-forward person, stick with your style! You're the type everyone style admires. They love how you could make plain white socks into a funky, bright outfit. Girls that are not fashion forward take notes (not literally) from the fashion forward person. Maybe some of their ideas fits to create/build your individuality
- Be confident in your new style. It's your style, so you can wear whatever you feel like. They key to looking good is confidence, and some lip gloss.
